This is going to be one of their biggest events so far! Gay River Camping (GRC) have booked campsites at a working cattle farm on the edge of the Shenandoah River!  It's located 10 miles south from Front Royal.

With summer in high gear, guys who love the outdoors spent the weekend camping out with the GayOutdoors tribe: partying, campfires, hiking, swimming, sightseeing, eating and watching fireworks.

For our last GO Gathering in New York we have a group campsite all to ourselves with a large party tent (including tables, chairs, large charcoal grill). It's being held again in Fahnestock State Park near Cold Spring from Friday, July 11th to Sunday, July 13th. This is our group BIG camping get-together and a great chance for you to meet new guys (or get reacquainted with old ones), try new activities and chat with all the guys you have got to know through GayOutdoors. Last year we had 40 gay campers, let's see what 2008 will bring!

Another Kampout has come and gone. This year’s event had about 130 people in attendance.

I watched one of those old British movies the other night, ‘Carry on Camping’. Although that’s obviously a play on words too, it did remind me of years gone by when I used to go camping. It was all cold water and very basic amenities then and it got me wondering what it would be like to go camping now. Are there specific gay campsites around the world? Where do I start if I wanted to go on a gay camping holiday? As usual when I don’t know what to do I started with a search engine search.

I'm 27 6'1" 181. I live within a few miles of Front Royal, VA. I'm straight, when I'm with my girlfriend and like to play with guys when she's not around. Since she lives with me, that's not very often, until now.

It's the little things. Not having to drive from our campsite to start a hike. Having a few beers at our campsite with Appalachian Trail thru-hikers who started in Georgia. Well-blazed hiking trails. Park rangers that are not only cute, but sincerely friendly. There are numerous reasons why we liked our stay at Fahnestock State Park in New York, and when you visit, it's those little things that you notice...

Six Gay Outdoors members, veterans of Tanglewood concerts, participated in the Tanglewood Camping Weekend.

If you missed it, then you missed the passion, camaraderie and magic of another great GO Gathering in New York's Catskills, held July 28-30, 2006.

Incredibly beautiful and highly rated, these under-visited state parks can deliver enriching and exciting camping experiences.

"Bottom line is... we're around each other an'... this thing, it grabs hold of us again... at the wrong place... at the wrong time... and we're dead." These words were spoken by Heath Ledger’s closeted character Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain." This could still be spoken today by closeted gay men. But thanks to the great outdoors, freedom for gay men still exists.

Tent Camping can be a lot of fun, or it can be miserable; it all depends on the tent. Choosing a tent is one of the most important decisions a camper can make.

The Gay Outdoors Gathering held from July 22 to 24 was the best yet! Special thanks to my partner, Jon Normand, who hosted this event and co-led the paddling trip down the Connecticut River with me. Thanks also go to Tim Buchanan for being this year's Registration Director and donating all the firewood. Special thanks to Rich Dezso who created the wonderful signage to help everyone find us at the campground, was a member of our panel and led a couple of trips. Big thanks go to other panelists: Carlos Davila and Dick Ambrose (who flew in from Atlanta). Thanks to all of our other trip leaders: Jonny Rosenfield, Ken Levine and Rick Frank. And Joe Kim who taught everyone a new fun game on Saturday night: Mafia! It was a great success with a record turnout of 44 gay outdoor enthusiasts, lots of fun, and I'm looking forward to next year's GO Gathering in the Catskills region of New York.
